Places to Find Ski Equipment, For Not TOO Much Money
Here are the places we know. If anyone has more ideas let us know and we'll post them here.

Ski swaps!: These can be great places to find cheap gear. We try to host a ski swap in Lancaster near the beginning of the season, so keep an eye out for it.

Season rentals: If you missed the ski swaps, you can go to some local ski shops and rent equipment for the season. It is a little pricey, but certainly better than buying new equipment every time your kids grow out of the old stuff. The best part is that if you do need to change sizes mid-season it doesn't cost any more. You just take them in and trade. One local shop that does season rentals is in Franconia.

Used gear places: The West Burke swap shop has some used equipment available. It is in the basement of the library there from 9-12 on the weekends. (You may want to call ahead to verify this info.)

Friends: I'm sure you've already thought of this one, but it's often a great place to find cheap gear especially for kids.

Don't worry if it's not the newest specialized gear—we've heard stories about people skiing at Prospect in the early days attached to their skis by canning supplies! OK, you may want to make sure your equipment is a little safer than that...
